Dalam beberapa materi sebelumnya saya telah memberikan penjelasan mengenai adjective, tentu kalian semua sudah mengerti bahwa adjecive merupakan kelompok kata yang berfungsi menjelaskan sebuah noun (kata benda) atau kata ganti (pronoun). Tahukah kamu bahwa sebenarnya adjective terbagi menjadi enam jenis? Apa sajakah 6 jenis adjective tersebut? Inilah penjelasannya:
PROPER ADJECTIVE
Proper adjective merupakan kata sifat yang dibentuk atau berasal dari proper noun. Bila kamu belu memahami apa itu proper noun silahkan baca artikel saya mengenai berbagai jenis noun di dalam bahasa inggris terlebih dahulu.
Berikut adalah contoh proper adjective di dalam kalimat bahasa inggris:
The man standing in the corner of the building is a Chinese.
They are studying Englishlanguage in the class.
Dari kedua kata tersebut terdapat proper adjective yaitu Chinese dan English.
Adjective CHINESE berasal dari proper noun CHINA sedangkan adjective ENGLISH berasal dari proper noun ENGLAND.
DESCRIPTIVE ADJECTIVE
Descriptive adjective dapat diartikan sebagai kata sifat yang menjelaskan”kualitas” atau “status” dari sebuah noun. Misalnya:
You are a brave man. (kualitas)
There are some sick students in the hospital.(kondisi/status)
QUANTITATIVE ADJECTIVE
Quantitative adjective berfungsi dalam menjelaskan jumlah dari sebuah benda (biasanya uncountable nouns), seperti:
I have no money.
Do you have some rice?
Yes, i have enough rice.
He gives all the rice.

NUMERAL ADJECTIVE
Menjelaskan jumlah, hitungan, atau urutan dari sebuah kata benda (biasanya countable noun) seperti:
Soekarno is the first president of indonesia.
I have two pens.
It’s only several men who came to the party.
There are so many things to do.
DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVE
Demonstrative adjective terbagi menjadi dua jenis, yaitu definite dan indefinite.
Definite demonstrative adjectivedigunakan untuk “menunjuk” sebuah barang tertentu.
Misalnya:
This bike is mine.
Those books are yours.
I will not do such ting as that.
That building is closed.
Indefinite demonstrative adjective digunakan untuk “menunjuk” atau menyatakan suat hal yang belum jelas. Misalnya:
One day, i met her. (tidak jelas kapan harinya)
I have another book. (tidak jelas buku yang mana)
DISTRIBUTIVE ADJECTIVE
Hanya ada empat buah distributive adjective, yaitu:
I will give this candy to eachstudent in this class.
Every student may come to the event.
You may have either pencil.
You may have neither pencil.
